GANG GREEN FALLS TO WINDY CITY’S SECOND WIND AND ANN ARBOR AT BREWHAHA

Coming off of a 304-90 victory over the Blue Ridge French Broads on May 11th, Gang Green’s next challenges came at the 4th annual Midwest BrewHaHa tournament in Milwaukee, WI.  They had their work cut out for them as they were slated to take on one of the best reserve squads in the country and an up-and-coming WFTDA apprentice all-star team.  By the tournament’s conclusion, Gang Green fell to the Windy City Second Wind 115-269 and lost on the final jam to the Ann Arbor Derby Dimes 207-222 in one of the most exciting bouts of the weekend. GANG GREEN TOPPLED BY SECOND WIND 115-269 With nothing to lose, Ohio’s Gang Green came out quickly against the Windy City Rollers' Second Wind and took advantage of costly jammer penalties from their opponent.  Shocking everyone in the arena, including the Second Wind, Gang Green had amassed a 30 point lead sixteen minutes into the contest.  Ohio’s Bigg Rigg started the scoring for Gang Green as she posted a 12-0 jam due to a track cut penalty that was assessed to Windy City’s Zombea Arthur.  Arthur got the Second Wind on the board during the second jam as she scored four points after being

(20) OHIO TO COMPETE AT MIDWEST BREWHAHA

This weekend, the (20) Ohio Roller Girls will travel to Milwaukee (WI) to take part in the annual Midwest BrewHaHa tournament hosted by the Brewcity Bruisers.  The festivities will kick off Friday and bouts will be played through Sunday evening.  The weekend will feature twenty sanctioned bouts, several reserve squad bouts, junior derby, and men’s derby. The Ohio Roller Girls All Stars are slated to play two bouts during the weekend, once on Saturday against the (59) Pikes Peak Derby Dames (Colorado Springs, CO) and again on Sunday against the (10) Minnesota RollerGirls.  Overall, OHRG have found success while playing in Milwaukee.  This trip will be the fourth time the Ohioans have attended BrewHaHa where they have since amassed a 4-2 record at the annual event.  In 2010, Ohio split the weekend by beating Hammer City but losing to Omaha.  The following year, they again split by defeating Bleeding Heartland but dropping a bout to the Chicago Outfit.  In 2012, Ohio went 2-0 with victories over Grand Raggidy and hosts Brewcity. OHRG have never faced Pikes Peak, their opponent on Saturday, who will enter the tournament with a 1-1 record this season.  They started 2012 with a big victory over Ark Valley

Ohio Defeats Tampa Bay 273-119, Falls to Atlanta 186-247

Before you read the recaps from OHRG's visit to Atlanta, check out this killer highlight reel: Ohio Defeats Tampa Bay 273-119 Only a few positions in the WFTDA rankings separated the (19 DNN, 23 WFTDA) Ohio Roller Girls and the (28 WFTDA) Tampa Bay Derby Darlins, but after sixty minutes of play, that gap seemed much wider.  In their first of two bouts of the day, OHRG caused twice as many power jams as their opponents and skated toward their matinee with Atlanta with a decisive 273-119 victory over Tampa.  In the process, Phoenix Bunz posted her third 100+ point bout of the season as she put up 121 of Ohio’s 273 points. While Bunz’s point total is impressive, the defining factor of the bout was Ohio’s pack.  Time and time again, Loraine Acid, Outa My Wayman, and Bratislava Bruiser would knock Tampa’s jammer out-of-bounds, retreat, and draw a track cut.  Ohio’s physical pack play seemed to cause problems for Tampa, as star jammer Little A missed significant time in both the first and second half due to hard Ohio blocks. (23) Ohio Looks For Success Against (15) Atlanta and (28) Tampa

This weekend, the Ohio Roller Girls will once again hit the highway as they travel down I-75 to Altanta, Georgia, for a double-header against the (15) Atlanta Rollergirls and the (28) Tampa Bay Derby Darlins. Ohio, currently 8-2 this season, recently came away with a home victory against the (44) Blue Ridge Rollergirls of Asheville, NC, 278-77.  The bouts against Atlanta and Tampa will mark the seventh and eighth bouts this season against teams ranked in the top 30 internationally.  The Atlanta bout will be the second of four bouts against teams that qualified for the Championship tournament in 2012 (top 12). With ten bouts already under their collective belt, the Ohio Roller Girls have already played more bouts this season than Tampa (7) and Atlanta (8) have scheduled for their entire season, and Ohio still has nine bouts to follow.  That type of anyone, anytime, anywhere mentality has pushed the OHRG to where they are today; however, that type of schedule can also hinder a team.  Over a five week span, the OHRG have already played, or are scheduled to play, eight bouts against quality opponents (River City, Charm City, Arch Rival, Blue Ridge, Tampa, Atlanta, Pikes Peak, and Minnesota).  With

OHRG Claims Victory Over Blue Ridge; Two Ohio Skaters Score 100+

Roughly one thousand fans filled the Lausche Building this past weekend for a Mother’s Day treat as OHRG was victorious over their competitors, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls All Stars.  The All Star bout was fast-paced, featured hard hits, and saw two jammers score over 100 points. (23) OHRG DEFEATS (44) BLUE RIDGE ALL STARS 278-77; PHOENIX BUNZ SCORES 140, KITTY LIQUORBOTTOM TALLIES 114 In the headliner bout of the afternoon, the Ohio Roller Girls welcomed in the Blue Ridge Rollergirls All Stars from Asheville, North Carolina.  Only having received their charter status last season, Blue Ridge came to Columbus with hopes of making a name for themselves. They entered the bout at 0-5 this season, but played four of those five bouts against higher ranked opponents, which included a bout against #15 Atlanta.  Blue Ridge is ranked #44 in the WFTDA, and a victory or close loss to Ohio could have potentially bumped them into the top 40.  With the new divisional system the WFTDA has adopted, the top 40 qualify for post-season berths in Division 1 and a shot at Championships. Gang Green Controls The French Broads 304-90

GANG GREEN CONTROLS THE FRENCH BROADS 304-90; SHRED HEAD JOINS THE CENTURY CLUB WITH 105 POINTS In the day’s opening bout, Ohio’s Gang Green got things started for the home fans as they soundly defeated the French Broads, the visiting Blue Ridge Rollergirls’ reserve squad.  Despite the final score being quite lopsided, the bout itself was very entertaining.  It featured fifteen power jams, three lead changes, Shred Head joining the elite century club by scoring over 100 points, and those in attendance witnessing an astounding number of different jammers wearing the starred helmet cover; of the 28 rostered skaters between the two squads, 19 different skaters played in the jammer position at least once in the contest. The bout started as French Broads’ jammer Beer Wench tallied three for the visitors, but was called for a track cut as the jam ended.  The subsequent power jam allowed for Gang Green’s Elektra Magneto to create the bout’s first lead change 10-3.  The bout was relatively constant for the next five jams as Gang Green held the lead 24-8 with 21:45 remaining. A track cut to Ohio’s TactiGal put the French Broads on a power jam during the eighth jam of the half.  Beer Wench used the advantage

(23) Ohio Welcomes the Blue Ridge Rollergirls; Game Moved to Lausche Building

This Saturday, the (23) Ohio Roller Girls welcome the Blue Ridge Rollergirls All-Stars from Asheville, North Carolina.  Also in action, Gang Green will lace their skates against Blue Ridge’s reserve squad, the French Broads.  Currently posting a record of 7-2 during their 2013 campaign, the Ohio Roller Girls are thankful to be back on their home track after playing three consecutive bouts on the road, two of which were against teams ranked ahead of them in the WFTDA standings. After defeating higher ranked Steel City at home in early April, OHRG traveled 1,050 miles as they visited River City (Richmond, VA) and (13) Charm City (Baltimore, MD).  The Ohioans were victorious against River City, but lost by an even 100 points to Charm City after being tied at halftime. This past weekend, Ohio upped their mileage again by traveling 836 miles to play the (12) Arch Rival Roller Girls (St. Louis, MO).  Missing key players Ava Tarr and Kill Basa, OHRG found it difficult to claim a road victory as they fell 108-179 this past weekend.  Bolstered by the return of Outa My Wayman as a full-time All Star player, the Ohio squad looks to get back to their winning ways this

OHRG Goes 1-1 on the Road

The (23) Ohio Roller Girls ended their 1,050 mile road trip with a decisive victory at Richmond (VA) over River City’s Poe’s Punishers 278-68, and with a disheartening loss in Baltimore (MD) to the (12) Charm City All-Stars 132-232. (23) OHRG DEFEATS RIVER CITY 278-68; THE SMACKTIVIST SCORES 115 POINTS Under the new divisional system the WFTDA has established this season, the Ohio Roller Girls are comfortably within the top 40 teams that make up Division I.  Currently ranked #75, River City is in Division II, needing to climb as high as #40 in order to qualify for the Division I playoffs.  A victory, or close loss, would have moved River City closer to that divisional cutoff.  The dreams of an upset over higher-ranked Ohio would not be in the cards for Poe’s Punishers as OHRG dominated the bout both physically, on the penalty board, and - most importantly - on the scoreboard. Ohio started the bout quickly as The Smacktivist scored the first of many double-digit jams throughout the contest, a twelve-pointer in the second jam that gave Ohio the lead 15-1.  Points were at a premium over the next six jams, but OHRG continued to lead 22-7 with 22:15 remaining in

Gang Green Splits Road Trip

Playing with a short roster, Gang Green broke even with a record-breaking 448-40 win against River City’s Uncivil Warriors and a slim loss to Charm City’s Female Trouble 185-200. GANG GREEN DEFEATS THE RIVER CITY UNCIVIL WARRIORS 448-40; ELEKTRA MAGNETO (117) AND BIGG RIGG (104) BOTH ECLIPSE CENTURY MARK In an attempt to salvage a victory in front of their home crowd, the River City Uncivil Warriors took the track against Ohio’s Gang Green in the second bout of the afternoon.  Much like the charter team who played before them, Gang Green was nearly perfect as they not only scored the most points by any team to ever play in the Greater Richmond Convention Center, but they also scored the most points in Gang Green team history.  During their 448-40 win, Gang Green had two jammers eclipse the century mark (Elektra Magneto with 117 and Bigg Rigg with 104), which is another first for either Gang Green or for Ohio’s charter team. Gang Green obtained lead on the bout’s first three jams.  Two consecutive jammer penalties to River City’s Barbie Beretta and Cindy Boo Who lead to jams of thirty-five, twenty-five, and twenty points for Bigg Rigg, Paige Bleed, and Elektra Magneto respectively.

GANG GREEN ROOKIES HOST CORD

Ohio’s Gang Green rookie crew invited second year team Central Ohio Roller Dolls from Mt.Vernon to Columbus for a closed scrimmage on Tuesday night. I'm proud of our ladies, CORD had some really strong walls. Though CORD was missing their star jammers, the blockers pulling double duty never said die! - Chainsaw Central Ohio was set back from the start, as their top three jammers ShaSam, PB Slammer, and Slapajawea were unable to make the trip with the Dolls. It was amazing to see what the rookies could do on their own out there. They stepped it up and took charge on all fronts. It was hard to contain myself at times because I was so happy with their teamwork and communication. - Ava Tarr Up next for Gang Green, a road trip to Richmond (VA) and Baltimore (MD) to take on the River City Uncivil Warriors and the Charm City Female Trouble.  They’ll be home again on May 11th as they take on the Blue Ridge Rollergirls from Asheville, North Carolina.
