(22) OHIO WELCOMES BUFFALO’S (48) QUEEN CITY ROLLER GIRLS

GET TICKETS TO TOMORROW'S BOUT HERE. The (22) Ohio Roller Girls had something this past week that they haven’t had in quite a while… a week off.  Coming off a three bout stint in Boston two weeks ago, OHRG will be back within the friendly confines of the Lausche Building as they welcome in Buffalo’s Queen City Roller Girls this Saturday evening.  Our Columbus squad returned from Massachusetts with a 2-1 weekend record as they upset (11) Boston 223-190, defeated New Hampshire 208-100, and nearly upset (12) Montreal 196-164 (note: following last weekend, the new rankings were released and Boston and Montreal are now ranked #17 and #16 respectively).  Overall, the Ohio Roller Girls All Stars are 7-5 in 2014. The Queen City Roller Girls will make the 5.5 hour drive to Columbus this weekend before they too enter the final stretch of their 2014 season.  The Lake Effect Furies will also have a little revenge on their minds, as they were defeated by the Ohio Roller Girls last year in Toronto at the Quad City Chaos tournament, 211-125.  Although the point differential at the end of that bout was 86 points, Queen City trailed Ohio by only 24 points halfway through

(20) OHRG DEFEATS (30) MADISON, FALLS TO (9) WINDY CITY

The Ohio Roller Girls managed to take their season record to 5-4 while competing at Midwest BrewHaHa by splitting bouts this past weekend.  Their victory over the Mad Rollin’ Dolls of Madison, Wisconsin, and loss to the Windy City Rollers of Chicago put their overall BrewHaHa record to 6-4.    (20) OHIO SPOILS BREWHAHA FOR THE (30) DAIRYLAND DOLLS 226-182 For their first bout of the weekend, the Ohio Roller Girls were paired against a familiar foe in (30) Madison’s Dairyland Dolls.  Although Ohio had defeated Madison in their previous two match-ups, both were very close bouts with the OHRG winning by 20 and 26 points respectively.  The contest at BrewHaHa lived up to the previous match-ups, as both squads played extremely physical on both offense and defense.  The bout started well for Ohio as The Smacktivist posted an 8-0 jam over Madison veteran Mouse.  Points were sparse over the next five jams until a 7 point jam by Madison’s Magic Missile gave the Dairyland Dolls their first lead, 15-11.  Madison wouldn’t have time to enjoy that lead as Ohio’s Jesse "Ava Tarr" Fox, Amy Spears, Lora "Outa My" Wayman, and Zee "Loraine Acid" Gulertekin paved the way for Kitty Liquorbottom’s 24-0

GANG GREEN SPLITS BOUTS AT BREWHAHA

The fifth annual Midwest BrewHaHa is in the books and Ohio’s Gang Green left Milwaukee sporting a 1-1 tournament record to take their overall season mark to 4-4.  On Friday, Gang Green opened a decent lead against the host squad, Brewcity Battlestars, before fending off a late comeback. Gang Green then lost a tough battle with Madison, Wisconsin’s, B-Team on Saturday morning. GANG GREEN HOLDS ON TO BEAT THE BATTLESTARS 159-140 Hop Devil started the bout quickly for Ohio as she was able to get lead jammer and post a quick 11-0 jam against Violet Femme for Brewcity.  An Ally McSqueal track cut on jam five led to the first power jam of the contest.  Starting unopposed, Busty Guns scored eleven and created the bout’s first lead change, 20-18 Brewcity.  A steady Gang Green jammer rotation of Hop, Ally, and Blitz Lemon kept the deficit to single digits until TactiGal was able to force a back block on Battlestars’ jammer Mellon Collie on the fourteenth jam of the half.  Hop Devil took advantage for Gang Green and scored 13, swinging the scoreboard back to Ohio’s favor, 42-38.   Gang Green’s lead didn’t last long as two jams later, Brewcity’s defense was able to hold

ATLANTA’S RUMBLE Bs STING GANG GREEN 277-74

After watching the Ohio Roller Girls’ charter team have a 24 consecutive home winning streak snapped by the Atlanta Rollergirls in the previous bout, Gang Green was hoping for a little revenge for their sisters in skate as they took the track against Atlanta’s reserve squad, the Rumble Bs.  Unfortunately, it was Atlanta’s two squads that left the Lausche Building with a pair of victories over Mother’s Day weekend.    As much as the skaters for Gang Green never gave up, and the home crowd applauded their efforts, the Rumble Bs simply dominated the contest from the first to final whistle.  Of the first half’s twenty-one jams, Atlanta’s reserve squad secured lead jammer nineteen times to Gang Green’s two.  Atlanta went with a five jammer rotation which kept their skaters fresh, while Gang Green primarily jammed Hop Devil, Ally McSqueal, and Blitz Lemon.  Although they played clean derby in the first half, the Gang Green jammers simply had too much working against them as the Rumble Bs repeatedly recycled on defense and formed nearly impenetrable walls over the duration of the contest.    Although they were outscored 129-43 in the first half, the Gang Green defense did show some moxie as they

GANG GREEN TAKEN DOWN BY NAPTOWN WARNING BELLES, 88-185

Ohio’s Gang Green started and ended strong against Indianapolis’s Naptown Warning Belles on Saturday. It was the middle part of the bout that caused them trouble. Gang Green jammer Hop Devil, who jammed thirteen times and won three leads (23%), breezed through the pack to gain the lead on the first jam. Nicold N Deadly (thirteen jams, five leads (38%)) overcame a low block on the second jam to gain a come-from-behind lead in the second, thanks to a stellar effort by her blockers to keep Belle jammer The Bitter End in the pack. TactiGal (six jams, three leads (50%)) followed with yet another lead on the third jam, and Hop Devil finished Ohio’s brief period of dominance by fighting off a forearm penalty to gain the lead in the fourth jam. I say “brief period” because the four jams combined netted a total of four points for Gang Green, and they were the last points Ohio would get for another six jams. The rest of the first half was all Warning Belles. The trouble started in the fifth jam, when jammer Nicold N Deadly was called for a cut while in the pack. She was called back to the track after the

GANG GREEN TAKES DOWN PLAN B (Kitchener, Ontario) 247-94

To Plan B, or not to Plan B… that was the question going into Saturday’s reserve squad battle between Ohio’s Gang Green and Tri-City’s Plan B.  The answer was simple as Gang Green brought strength, depth, and an overall dominant performance to the track as they soundly defeated the visitors 247-94.  Gang Green started slowly as Plan B took an early 8-7 lead going into the fourth jam.  A multiplayer block to Plan B’s Commander Will Wrecker allowed Blitz Lemon to score a 17-0 jam, thus creating the bout’s first (and only) lead change.  Lemon’s power jam was followed by a 14-0 jam by Hop Devil which took Gang Green’s lead to 38-8 with 22:30 remaining in the first period. A string of eight straight lead jammers for Gang Green allowed the home squad to go on an 86-4 run over Tri-City and extend their lead to 93-12.  The final jam of that run saw Gang Green’s pack force a track cut to Plan B’s Slaughterhouse Streeter, which put Blitz Lemon on yet another power jam.  Lemon took full advantage of a strong pack that was able to hold Streeter on her initial pass after being released from the box and

GANG GREEN DEFEATS NASHVILLE’S BRAWL STARS 170-114

After watching the Ohio Roller Girls defeat the Music City All Stars in the previous bout, Gang Green would make it an Ohio sweep over the visitors from Nashville, Tennessee, defeating the Brawl Stars 170-114 in the season opener.  A close bout throughout the first half featured four lead changes and a slim lead at the half for Gang Green.  However, a 112-68 point second half advantage for Gang Green left little doubt late that Gang Green would take home the victory. Skating in her first bout with Gang Green, Hop Devil opened the scoring for the home squad after calling the jam 4-0.  After tying the bout on the next jam, Nashville’s Electric Boogaloo would create the first lead change after securing a 3-0.  Boogaloo’s three point jam put the Brawl Stars ahead 7-4.  The lead would not last long, as it was again Hop Devil scoring four more points that gave the lead back to Gang Green 8-7.  Points were nickel-and-dimed over the next three jams until Nashville swung the scoreboard back in their favor 16-15 with 19:00 remaining in the first period. A string of lead jammers for Nashville’s Big Banger, Electric Boogaloo, Cruella Lavelle, and Ginger Juke increased
