(34) Ohio Hits The Road For Clash With (29) Steel City

Between 2006 and 2012, the Ohio Roller Girls and Steel City’s Steel Hurtin’ only managed to play each other two times, with both squads winning once.  Over the last two seasons, however, Ohio and Steel City have played each other four times, and have developed quite the rivalry with one another.  Pittsburgh’s Steel Hurtin’ lost to Ohio twice in 2013 and once again in late August of 2014.  However, the old proverb “revenge is a dish best served cold,” or… vengeance is often more satisfying if it is not executed immediately, couldn’t be more true for Steel City as they were able to defeat Ohio one month later at the WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs.  Ohio has had nearly a full year to digest that loss, and to prepare for this weekend’s upcoming rematch with the Pittsburgh squad.  Although Ohio has a 4-2 overall record over Steel City, the bouts themselves have been close and exciting to the end with the average winning point differential over their six bouts being only 27 points. (34) OHIO ROLLER GIRLS DROWN OUT (43) NASHVILLE ROLLERGIRLS, 222-172

Well rested from their brief mid-season hiatus—the first after nearly four months and fifteen games—and keenly focused after last week's announcement of placements for the 2015 International WFTDA Playoffs, the Ohio Roller Girls hit the road to Nashville, ready to face the heat of the Music City All Stars. Each team had previously bested the other on their home tracks, and Ohio was well poised to snag a road win this time around to improve their record to 2-1 over Nashville. Ohio took the lead in the first jam, and held on to it for the next seven. Strong Nashville defense in jam three could not contain The Smacktivist, who pushed through for lead jammer status. Slipping easily back into Ohio defense, Zee Loraine Acid Gulertekin partnered with blockers Ena Flash and Texas Chainsaw Sasskicker to silence Nashville's jammers. A string of four lead jams for Nashville allowed them to take a 50-46 lead in jam nine, but they couldn't hold the high note for long. Kitty Liquorbottom broke their lead jam streak while donning the star panty, and Burnadeath followed up with a fast and intense power jam. OHIO TOURS THE MUSIC CITY FOR CLASH AGAINST NASHVILLE

The Ohio Roller Girls will boot, scoot, and boogie their way southwest this weekend for a tough bout against the Nashville Rollergirls.  The matchup will be the third meeting between these two teams, with both squads each winning once on their home turf.  Nashville took the first ever matchup in Tennessee, 166-43, back in 2010, while Ohio served up some home-cooking last season in Columbus, 194-128.  With final rankings and tournament seedings being released, both teams will have to channel their inner Spinal Tap, dig deep for that little extra, and turn it to “eleven” if they want positive momentum headed into playoffs. The Nashville Rollergirls have fallen from Division 1 into Division 2 this season, but it wasn’t because the team has taken a step back talent-wise.  With a 2015 record of 5-7, Nashville’s Music City All Stars have committed themselves to playing a stronger schedule this year than in season’s past.  Riding a three bout win streak with victories against Columbia (SC), Cincinnati (OH), and Providence (RI), Nashville also has victories over Blue Ridge (NC) and St. Chux (MO).  Their losses came to Boston (MA), Charlottesville (VA), Arch Rival (MO), and Naptown (IN).  Most recently, the Music City All

(29) OHIO DEFUSES (69) FT. WAYNE DERBY GIRLS’ BOMB SQUAD, 266-72

Coming home from a long, hard weekend on the road at BrewHaHa, the Ohio Roller Girls looked to clinch a win over Ft. Wayne Derby Girls' Bomb Squad (IN) during their second-to-last home game of the season, and did not disappoint the crowd of fans & OHRG alumni in attendance. Ohio played fast and aggressive from the first whistle, taking the lead with 4 points in the first 40 seconds and holding that lead well out of Ft. Wayne's reach for the entirety of the game. Ft. Wayne lost two blockers to the penalty box at the end of the first jam, and a high block call on PushyCat at the start of jam two gave Kitty Liquorbottom plenty of room to score 15 points before calling it off. Ft. Wayne managed to get on the board, but Ohio held their scoring to a minimum even when the Indiana jammers obtained lead status. In jam seven, Ohio held the rear, with Burnadeath sticking to Dodger L. Bows & holding her on her initial pass before drawing a track cut penalty; Lora “Outa My” Wayman, donning the star for Ohio for the first time in the game, easily racked up 20 points

GANG GREEN NEUTRALIZES BURNING RIVER’S HAZMAT CREW 219-84

As the Ohio Roller Girls celebrated their tenth anniversary this weekend, it was Gang Green that turned things up to eleven as they provided that little extra oomph during a 219-84 victory over visiting HazMat Crew, the reserve squad from Burning River Roller Derby.  Following what was a close bout during the first seven jams, Gang Green was able to capture the lead in the eighth jam and never look back.  Stout defense by Gang Green blockers Quiet Storm, NiCold N Deadly, Zinnia Zombie, and Garden of Beatin repeatedly held back HazMat jammers while opening holes for their own jammers throughout the first half. After finding themselves down 19-20 after jam seven, Val Holla put Gang Green ahead with a 9-0 jam of her own.  Toeing the inside line off the jam start in the next jam, KloverKill added an additional 4-0 to increase Gang Green’s lead to 32-20.  Powerful subsequent jamming by Gang Green’s HellionBOI, Karmabal Lector, and Blitz Lemon paired with even better blocking by Gang Green’s pack players enabled the home squad to go on a 48-5 run that spanned nine jams and thirteen minutes.  With 9:30 remaining in the first half, Gang Green held a 67-25 lead.

OHRG CELEBRATES A DECADE OF DERBY

This weekend marks a decade of derby for the Ohio Roller Girls, and they’ll celebrate by welcoming in the Ft. Wayne Derby Girls’ Bomb Squad and Burning River Roller Derby’s HazMat Crew for an action-packed double header at the Ohio Building on Saturday.  The weekend celebration calls for all OHRG skating/officiating/and other volunteer alumni to come back and see what their hard work has built over the past ten years. The (29) Ohio Roller Girls are coming off a tough three day weekend in Milwaukee (WI) where they participated in the 6th annual Midwest BrewHaHa invitational.  Ohio had one of the toughest schedules out of all the participating teams as they faced the (14) Arch Rival Roller Girls (St. Louis), (7) Minnesota RollerGirls (St. Paul), and (23) Tampa Roller Derby.  OHRG fought hard, but eventually went 0-3 over the weekend taking their overall 2015 record to 6-6 in sanctioned WFTDA play.  BrewHaHa marks the first time Ohio has lost three consecutive bouts since 2012.  Your local squad looks to bounce back this weekend as they’ll take on the (69) Ft. Wayne Bomb Squad (IN). Ft. Wayne will enter Columbus with a 2-8 record this season with their two victories coming early against
