OHIO NARROWLY SILENCED BY ROC CITY

Barrelling full steam ahead into the season, Ohio Roller Derby hosted Roc City Roller Derby (Rochester, NY) for two incredibly close-scoring games that each saw numerous lead changes and outcomes determined in the closing minutes. (66) OHIO UPSET BY (71) ROC CITY IN NAILBITER, 156-171 Meeting for the first time since 2016, the Ohio Roller Derby All Stars and the Roc City Roc Stars fought for every point in a back-and-forth battle, with neither team managing to accumulate a sizeable lead. Six jams ending in a tied score, seven lead changes, and nine jams with matched scoring passes kept all 30 skaters on their toes while fans in attendance steadily raised the volume in the Ohio Building throughout the game. Fast pack speed in the first handful of jams minimized gains on both sides, but a star pass to Betty T. KayO helped Ohio capitalize on the first power jam opportunity in jam 6 and take an 18-14 lead. After the All Stars controlled the clock for three consecutive jams, Florence Fightingale picked up lead jammer status for Roc City in jam 11, but massive hits by Pain Train stalled her progress; meanwhile, Chainsaw took a star pass and hustled through the pack

Ohio Ready to Jam with Roc City

Hot off their season debut victory over Toronto, Ohio Roller Derby welcomes Roc City Roller Derby (Rochester, NY) to the Ohio Expo Center on Saturday, April 6th. The Roc City Roc Stars have made steady upward progress in the WFTDA rankings over the past year, climbing from 114 last March to their current seat at 74 with the help of a stellar 8-0 season in 2018. Building on that momentum in the new year, the Roc Stars have extended their win streak to 10 games with early season home victories over Orangeville Roller Girls and Steel City Roller Derby. Their trip to Columbus is their first travel game of the year; they will also join Ohio at the Put Up Your Toques tournament in Canada in May, where they will take on Toronto Roller Derby, Royal City Roller Derby, and tournament hosts Tri-City Roller Derby. Ohio has only clashed with Roc City once previously, which resulted in a 338-140 home track win for the All Stars. Both teams have undergone extensive roster changes in the years since but return largely veteran squads from last season. OHIO SILENCES ROC CITY IN BACK-TO-BACK GAMES

Looking to secure a Division 1 Playoff spot for the OHRD All Stars, and aiming for a third straight win in less than a month for Gang Green, Ohio Roller Derby welcomed Roc City Roller Derby (Rochester, NY) and easily accomplished their goals. (36) OHIO QUIETS THE ROC STARS, 338-140 While Ohio’s jammers posted more than a few impressive scoring runs, it was the blocking core’s unstoppable defense in the second half that truly solidified the home team victory, holding Roc City to a mere 48-point gain while Lora “Outa My” Wayman, Blitz Lemon, The Smacktivist, and Kitty Liquorbottom racked up a combined 200 points. Ohio kicked off the game with a handful of 3- and 4-point jams, and Blitz Lemon squeezed through on the inside line to give the Columbus squad a 21-3 lead in jam 6. Roc City tried to draw a track cut penalty on Lora “Outa My” Wayman, but she snagged lead while Burnadeath swept the opposing jammer out of bounds; a patch of penalty trouble for Ohio allowed Roc City to outscore them for five straight jams despite fleet jamming by Betty T. KayO and The Smacktivist. GO! stole a 55-53 lead for the Roc Stars with just over
