Gang Green Muted by Warning Belles

Looking to take after their Charter Team counterparts, Ohio’s Gang Green also aimed to avenge an earlier season loss to Naptown.  Unfortunately for Gang Green, the season split was not to be, as Naptown’s Warning Belles were victorious, 181-129, in a bout that wasn’t quite decided until the final few jams.  The bout started strong for both teams as Naptown jammers Pirouette Threat, Scorpiopathic, and Lysis 2 Kill obtained lead status on five of the bout’s first six jams.  With that type of advantage, teams would typically rack up an abundance of points; however, Naptown was only able to capitalize minimally due to Gang Green’s strong defense.  Slammerhead, Garden of Beatin’, Adams and KloverKill bent but didn’t break as they allowed no more than four points each jam and only trailed 15-2 after six jams. Points were nickel-and-dimed for the majority of the bout as Gang Green jammers TactiGal, Karmabal Lector, HellionBOI, and Blitz Lemon basically matched those posted by their competitors.  With 7:00 remaining in the first half, Naptown held a slim three-point lead 41-38.  Strong defense by Warning Belles blockers Crash N2U, Eve Anne Hellical, and Flannery O’Clobber was then able to hold Karmabal Lector on her initial pass

Ohio Dominates Quad City Chaos in Toronto

The Ohio Roller Girls traveled to Toronto last weekend to take part in the Quad City Chaos tournament. A round-robin event, Ohio faced Toronto, Rideau Valley, and Queen City. Ohio Edges Out Toronto's CN Power The OHRG All Stars kicked the weekend off with a win over CN Power. Ohio got off to a strong start, with Phoenix Bunz and the Smacktivist racking up 4 points each. Solid pack work from Ohio's Ava Tarr, Bratislava Bruiser, Loraine Acid, and Pippi RipYourStockings held CNP jammers Kookie Doe and Motorhead Molly (a former Tri-City skater) back in the first two jams. Not to be outdone, Bambi and Motorhead Molly each respectively sped through the pack to quickly answer for CN Power, shifting the score to 12-8.  Although Kookie Doe was sent to the penalty box on a track cut the following jam, Ohio's Loraine Acid had trouble with Bruiseberry Pie and Nasher the Smasher, who forced their own track cut, releasing Kookie Doe from the box. Kookie Doe successfully called off the jam despite not being lead jammer and was sent back to the box for an illegal procedure penalty. Ohio Opens 2013 With a Tripleheader

On March 9th the Ohio Roller Girls will kick off their 2013 home season with a triple-header as they welcome the Burning River Roller Girls (Cleveland, OH) and the Bleeding Heartland Rollergirls (Bloomington, IN). The festivities will kick off at 3:00 p.m. as the OHRG All Stars compete against the Burning River All Stars in the first of three bouts. That battle of the charter teams will be followed by Gang Green’s first bout of the season as they take on Bleeding Heartland’s Code Blue Assassins. The final leg of the trilogy will feature a hard-hitting, fast-paced bout as OHRG All Stars again take the track, this time against Bleeding Heartland’s all-star team, the Flatliners. The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is going to look a little different this year than it has in the past. New playoff formats and rule changes were put into effect following the 2012 Championship tournament in order to allow teams the off-season to become acclimated. Regarding the rule changes, the most important one the fans and skaters will have to get used to is that there are no longer minor penalties during gameplay.
