OHIO FINISHES 2016 SEASON WITH 1-2 RUN AT PLAYOFFS

From a strict win-loss pattern perspective, Ohio’s performance at the 2016 International WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Madison, WI looked eerily similar to their trips to D1s in Evansville, IN in 2014 and Dallas, TX in 2015: a tough loss to a higher-seeded team in their first game on Friday, a much more closely contested loss in the consolation bracket on Saturday, and a sound victory in their final game on Sunday. As teams at Playoffs only know for sure who their first opponent will be, Ohio needed to be prepared not only to play Windy City in Game 1, but any of the other eight teams in the tournament over the course of the weekend, from #10 seed Mad Rollin’ Dolls to the #1-ranked team in the world, Gotham. Of the 16 skaters playing for Ohio over the course of the weekend, 13 had skated at D1s in previous years, giving the team a veteran advantage with a good dose of fresh blood in both the blocker & jammer rotations. OHIO HEADS TO WFTDA DIVISION 1 PLAYOFFS

For the fourth straight year, Ohio Roller Derby has qualified for WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs, showing their mettle as one of the top 40 teams in the world. With the implementation of the divisional system in 2013, Ohio exploded into Division 1, placing second at Playoffs and reaching the quarterfinals at Championships. They have returned to D1 Playoffs each year since, and this year will enter as the #9 seed at the final D1 tournament in Madison, WI. Hosted by the #10 seed Mad Rollin’ Dolls, the tournament will also see gameplay from Gotham Girls Roller Derby, Arch Rival Roller Derby, Minnesota RollerGirls, Tampa Roller Derby, Team United, Helsinki Roller Derby, No Coast Derby Girls, and Ohio’s first opponent of the weekend, Windy City Rollers. While Ohio and Windy are next door neighbors on the current WFTDA rankings and have each played 12 sanctioned games this season, the two have had rather different journeys from last year’s postseason to now. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ohio Roller Girls Qualify for Women’s Roller Derby Playoffs OHRG to Compete in Division 1 Tournament in Evansville, IN AUSTIN, TEXAS – The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) announced that the Ohio Roller Girls qualified for the 2014 WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Evansville, Indiana, Sept. 19-21 as the #5 seed. The tournament seeding reflects the June 30 WFTDA rankings, which were based on sanctioned games played through that date. The international WFTDA Playoffs and Championships tournament series brings together the most talented, highly trained and committed skaters and officials from WFTDA member leagues to display the “Real, Strong, Athletic and Revolutionary” game play that pushes the limits of the sport worldwide. Whether participating on the track, cheering in the stands or watching online, the WFTDA tournaments provide everyone who loves roller derby an opportunity to witness the most anticipated match-ups of the year. (20) OHRG DEFEATS (30) MADISON, FALLS TO (9) WINDY CITY

The Ohio Roller Girls managed to take their season record to 5-4 while competing at Midwest BrewHaHa by splitting bouts this past weekend.  Their victory over the Mad Rollin’ Dolls of Madison, Wisconsin, and loss to the Windy City Rollers of Chicago put their overall BrewHaHa record to 6-4.    (20) OHIO SPOILS BREWHAHA FOR THE (30) DAIRYLAND DOLLS 226-182 For their first bout of the weekend, the Ohio Roller Girls were paired against a familiar foe in (30) Madison’s Dairyland Dolls.  Although Ohio had defeated Madison in their previous two match-ups, both were very close bouts with the OHRG winning by 20 and 26 points respectively.  The contest at BrewHaHa lived up to the previous match-ups, as both squads played extremely physical on both offense and defense.  The bout started well for Ohio as The Smacktivist posted an 8-0 jam over Madison veteran Mouse.  Points were sparse over the next five jams until a 7 point jam by Madison’s Magic Missile gave the Dairyland Dolls their first lead, 15-11.  Madison wouldn’t have time to enjoy that lead as Ohio’s Jesse "Ava Tarr" Fox, Amy Spears, Lora "Outa My" Wayman, and Zee "Loraine Acid" Gulertekin paved the way for Kitty Liquorbottom’s 24-0

OHIO AND GANG GREEN TRAVEL FOR MIDWEST BREWHAHA

This weekend, the (20) Ohio Roller Girls will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to participate in the annual Midwest BrewHaHa invitational featuring WFTDA sanctioned play, non-sanctioned play, and men’s derby.  This year will mark Ohio’s fifth consecutive season participating in the event, where the OHRG have amassed a 5-3 record.  This year, Ohio will lace their skates twice over the three day event against very formidable foes, (30) Madison's (WI) Dairyland Dolls and (9) Chicago's Windy City Rollers. The Ohio Roller Girls will first play the Dairyland Dolls on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.  Historically, these two teams have always played very tough, but Ohio has the overall advantage in the win column, 2-0, over Madison.  They last played each other in 2012 in Madison, when Ohio escaped with a 26 point victory, 154-128.  Prior to that dust-up, Ohio eliminated Madison at the 2011 North Central Region Playoffs, 138-118. This season, the Dairyland Dolls have accumulated a 2-2 record thus far.  They opened their season with an impressive 72 point victory over BrewHaHa hosts, the Brewcity Bruisers, and then suffered two consecutive losses to Jacksonville and Arch Rival.  Madison then stunned Naptown in a hangover bout 162-142 to pull their overall record to
