How did you choose your derby name?
I did not, my brother gave it to me long before derby.
Tell us about what you do for the league. What are your goals this year for you with derby and officiating?
Head Referee – My duties include of course reffing games, but also staying on top of all of the latest rules, safety and procedure changes, training the ref crew, staffing the bouts, answering any questions the skaters may have, etc.
WFTDA Officials rep – I represent Ohio Roller Girls to the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. I vote on rule and safety procedure changes. I participate in discussions on all aspects of derby that shape the sport’s future.
WFTDA Officials AP Coordinator – I coordinate WFTDA’s Apprentice leagues to ensure their officials have access to the vast amount of resources available through WFTDA.
Goals – I am so busy it is hard to have any goals other than to make sure it all gets done.
How did you get involved with derby in the first place?
Heard about it on the radio in my truck. I was a fan for a year then my girlfriend attended the WannaBe Clinic and then got into OHRG’s rec league. She eventually joined the team and roped me in. Now I am in deeper than she is!
What is your favorite derby moment from so far this year?
Attending the WFTDA Conference in Denver. I was amazed how many talented people are juggling two, three, four, sometimes more jobs all at the same time. The dedication was inspiring to say the least.
What do you enjoy doing on your spare time?
Riding my Harley and Jet Ski, playing paintball, scuba diving… and with roller derby it’s hard to find the time for it all!
What is your favorite color?
Ironically, green. My Harley is green.
Lastly, what is some advice for those that are interested in reffing or volunteering?
Don’t wait, there is a place for everyone. So come join Team Zebra or Team Flamingo!!!
