How did you get into derby?
My aunt took me to my first bout in the early 2000’s and after that I was hooked.
Do you have any other hobbies?
Spending time with my husband, Quiver, and my 3 amazing kids – Trinitie, Hunter, and Willow; church activities; board games; tabletop role-playing games; LARPing; competition archery; cooking; reading; camping; kayaking; fishing; swimming; geocaching; and murder mystery events.
What is your favorite derby memory thus far?
Cheering on teams at D2 Tournament in 2017. It was the first tournament I had attended and it was amazing!
Who inspires you?
My husband and my children. Quiver challenges me every day which in turn makes me challenge myself to do better and to learn more about anything I am interested in. My children ask questions that are so innocent but end up being super challenging. Being able to answer their questions honestly helps me grow as a person. The ordeals my children and husband have gone through and come out of for the better inspire me every day.
How/why did you pick your derby name?
I have met my closest friends by playing Pathfinder and I choose Nessie as my Rogue’s name. She was despised by my friends so much that people still talk about the things my character did years later. The name just stuck with me after that. Hearing the name always brings back good memories!
Do you have any pre- or post-bout rituals?
Pre: Ensure my kids are taken care of so I have the ability to focus on the bout and then grab a bubble tea on the way!
Post: Either go home to my kiddos or grab a quick bite to eat with some derby friends.
How has derby impacted your life?
The derby people are amazing. We had a house fire in early 2018 and lost everything. We were new to NSOing as of 2017 and people that were still getting to know us were super supportive. We really felt like we were part of something with feeling all the love from everyone after the house fire.
Any other fun facts about yourself?
I went from 0 to 3 kids in 11 months.
