#607 Gorges Curves

How did you get into derby?
I was living on an Army/Air Force base near Tacoma, WA and their was a team on-base for soldiers and spouses. It was within walking distance of my house so I thought I would give it a try

Do you have any other hobbies?
Reading, knitting, sewing, and stargazing

What is your sports background?
I’ve played sports since I was little. In high school, I played soccer, basketball, and softball. I have also tried my hand at flag football, snowboarding and skiing, tennis, and indoor soccer.

How/Why did you pick your derby name?
I really like the play on word names, so I was trying to find something that would work. I was living in Ithaca, NY at the time and got stuck behind a car with a “Ithaca is Gorges” bumper sticker and Gorges Curves was born.

Do you have any pre or post bout rituals?

For home games, I pre-bout by spending time with my kiddos. I also eat a big breakfast and visualize being awesome in the bout. Post-bout, I reflect on what I did well and if I met my game goals.

Do you have a favorite or signature derby move?
I think I’m still working on this.

How has derby impacted your life?
Derby make me a better person. I have met so many amazing women and people through derby all over the world. It give me an outlet and a personal purpose that is mine and for me. It has also given me business knowledge, budgeting and HR skills. Derby keeps me happy.

Any other fun facts about yourself?
My husband was on deployments when both of our children were born.
