#451 Burnadeath

BurnadeathHow did you get into derby?

My sister, Electra Mayhem, introduced me to derby.  We’ve always lived on opposite coasts and possibly planets, but derby is our great unifier.

Do you have any other hobbies?

Knitting (although Vyles and Spears knit circles around me), cooking, caring for an elderly Chihuahua, taking C-bus by storm, appreciating the teenagers of the world, reading.

Who inspires you?

Junior derby players, they’re the future of the sport.

What is your sports background?

I did gymnastics for 12 years as a youth. One year of softball in high school in which I sat on the bench and flinched at balls.  Four years of playing hacky sack at OU.

How/why did you pick your derby name?

It took me a long time to pick a name.  I have a super nerd friend, George, who suggested I be Burnadeath after the DC comic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernadeth).  Also, I have a great love of Ray Bradbury, thus the 451 number.

Do you have any pre or post bout rituals?

Before a bout I like to clean my wheels, do a 4 hour energy shot, and avoid Ava Tarr’s hits during warm up.

Do you have a favorite or signature move?

I love the Slay-ride (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1uVC0VlqwY) by Beyonslay.  It may be outdated, but it still inspires me.

How has derby impacted your life?

Roller derby saved my soul.
