How did you get into derby?
My derby journey started in 2010. I was working in retail and one day someone came in speaking about that Ohio Roller Girls were having tryouts that weekend if I was interested. Living in Cleveland that seemed too far for me, so I checked out Burning River Roller Derby. I did their fresh meat program for a few months before life got crazy and had to drop out. Every few months it felt like something was missing in my life, and it was derby. When I came back to Columbus I made sure to find Ohio Roller Girls to get derby back into my life.
Do you have any other hobbies?
I enjoy running and have done over 25 5K’s, a few 10K’s, and a quarter marathon. I am hoping in the next year a few half marathons. Also in my spare time I do ceramic art and photography.
Who inspires you?
Every athlete inspires me physically to push myself to be the best athlete possible. My family inspires me to be better person than I was yesterday. Lastly but most importantly everyone on the team inspires me that everyone has a purpose and to be better you have to put in the effort.
What is your sports background?
I played fast-pitch competitively from 2nd grade until my junior year in college; now I just play recreationally. I then took up ice skating for a year and yoga. I like to try as many different sports as possible.
How/Why did you pick your derby name?
Someone murdered (pun intended) the spelling of my last name around the time I was trying to pick out a name and I thought it was very fitting to pay homage to my last name but also instill fear in all those I play against.
How has derby impacted your life?
It has helped become an outlet for my high stress job, plus it has provided connections to other amazing people so I can socialize and meet others. It has made me become more confident in who I am and taught me that I can overcome more than I thought I could.
