How did you get into derby?
I came to one of the first bouts, back when there were home teams. Having played competitive sports I wanted to get involved in something new. Plus I was friends with Pippi Ripyourstockings outside of derby & watching her played really helped inspire me to play.
Do you have any other hobbies?
I play volleyball and soccer. I also enjoy working in my garden.
Who inspires you?
Working for the American Heart Association, I am inspired every day – by those who listen to their warning signs and take action before it is too late, to those who dedicate their career to research, and by those survivors who give my job so much meaning.
What is your sports background?
I went to college on a volleyball scholarship and played soccer and basketball since I was little.
How/why did you pick your derby name?
You can thank my soccer team for my derby name – I turned to them for a good brain storm session after a game. Voila, they nailed it.
Do you have any pre or post bout rituals?
Nope! I try to relax on game day until I lace up my skates.
Do you have a favorite or signature move?
How can I say this… taking whips. I truly enjoy the team work on the track & receiving a whip to get me out of the pack (especially when lead jammer) just shows how well our team works together.
How has derby impacted your life?
It got me out of my sports slump. When you have played the same sport for over 20 years, it can get repetitive. Having derby gave me something new to learn. And not only was I learning to skate, I was learning rules and strategy.
It has allowed me to take a break from other sports & come back rejuvenated.
